The Promise Prepares for its 21st Season in America’s Dream Town One of the major outdoor spectacles in Texas kicks off its 21st season when The Promise opens in Glen Rose on Friday, September 4. This magnificent show, which has been performed in front of hundreds of thousands of people and toured the world to such far away places as Russia, runs every Friday and Saturday night from September through October 31. The Promise debuted in 1989 and began as a passion play, but has evolved into an exciting, live musical drama that has enthralled generations of spectators. In 1993 The Promise became the first Christian production to be allowed into the former Soviet Union in 1993 and in 1994 returned for a tour of encore performances. The Fair and the Denton County Livestock Show are flanked by all kinds of fun for everyone in the family. In 2008, the Denton fair received the Overall Award of Excellence for fairs and events in Texas with attendance of 100,000 to 500,000. And, it’s no wonder. The 81-year-old-event will attract 140,000 people and boasts a world-class midway, top-flight singers, and all the great rodeo traditions like bull riding, bucking broncos, calf roping, barrel racing and mutton bustin’ (kids riding sheep for all your city folks out there).
