Through June 14 Kimbell Art Museum’s exhibition “Art and Love in Renaissance Italy,” presents 150 paintings and art objects that depict family life for the wealthy in Renaissance Italy. The pieces were created to celebrate love and marriage and includes Renaissance glassware, cassone panels given as wedding gifts, birth trays, jewelry, gilded boxes, bridal chests, paintings of betrothals, items from dowries, and textiles. A wall covered in green fabric copied from the collection separates a section where “explicitly sexual images” are displayed. Visitors are warned to preview the room before entering it with children. Through Summer 2009 The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History’s Omni Theater is showing Grand Canyon Adventure: River at Risk on its giant IMAX screen. Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and Wade Davis, two environmental heroes, will take audiences on this illuminating rafting trip. Accompanying their fathers on this adventure will be Kick Kennedy and Tara Davis, for whom the journey is a moving rite of passage. Shana Watahomigie, a member of the Havasupai tribe and the first Native American to become a National Park Ranger and river guide, guides this river rafting adventure. Kennedy, who recalls going down the Colorado a few decades ago with his own father and seeing wide, sandy banks and animals that have since vanished, says: “My hope is that Grand Canyon Adventure: River at Risk will remind the world that restoring our waterways and conserving fresh water are important, not just in developing nations but here at home. The...survival of our civilization will depend on it.” Robert Redford narrates the film. The score was co-composed by Dave Matthews Band’s Stefan Lessard and Steve Wood.
